How to apply for BEUC membership

BEUC members are independent national consumer organisations. BEUC membership is open to consumer organisations within the European Union, the European Economic Area, and elsewhere in Europe (in this case as associate). Organisations must fulfil the following requirements:

  • have a national base
  • exist as a legal entity in their own right
  • have as main purpose the promotion and defence of the general interests of consumers
  • be able to demonstrate competence in promoting and defending consumers' interest in all areas concerning the latter
  • be independent of government, whether national, regional or local, and of other non-consumer interests

Members pay a membership contribution of 0.45% of their annual income and have the right to participate in all BEUC activities and to vote at General Assembly meetings.

Associates pay a membership contribution of 0.35% of their annual income and have the right to participate in all BEUC activities but do not have a vote.

Organisations that do not meet the criteria for full or associate membership may, in some cases, be eligible to affiliate to BEUC as correspondents.

Any organisation wishing to become a member or associate shall submit a dossier containing relevant information and documents.
